Why Ladakh
Ladakh is a cold high desert above 3,000m where Tibetan-Buddhist monasteries sit on cliffs, roads cross passes over 5,000m and lakes like Pangong and Tso Moriri change colour through the day. Leh is the base for acclimatisation and the Indus valley monastery circuit; Nubra adds sand dunes and Bactrian camels, and the Manali and Srinagar highways make legendary road journeys. Travel runs mainly from May to September, and altitude discipline matters more than any itinerary.
