About this journey
The valley done properly. You stay on Nigeen Lake rather than the crowded Dal, in a houseboat where the walnut carving is original and breakfast arrives by shikara. Gulmarg is a heated chalet with fireplace and mountain views, and Pahalgam a riverside suite where the Lidder is loud enough to sleep to. A private guide travels with you, opening old-city workshops, saffron farms and carpet ateliers that are otherwise closed doors. Meals lean local — a proper sit-down wazwan, trout grilled at the river, kahwa at altitude — and the pace stays yours rather than the itinerary's.
